Congress overturned President Obama's veto of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) on Wednesday. The legislation allows victims of terror attacks on U.S. soil to pursue lawsuits against foreign state actors that are accused of being complicit.
This is the first veto override of his time in the White House. A veto override requires a two-thirds vote in both the House of Representatives & the Senate, meaning that the bipartisan consensus is vast.
The White House is calling the override "the single most embarrassing thing the Senate has done..."
