We have some very exciting news: U.S. Senator Joni Ernst will be our main speaker for our Saturday night dinner at convention on May 5, in San Diego. Click HERE to purchase tickets today.
We’re sure you are familiar with her by now. But just in case, she is the first female in Iowa’s history to hold a federal elected office, as well as the first female combat veteran elected to the U.S. Senate, having served more than 23 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and Iowa Army National Guard.
She is extremely well-respected nationally, having been chosen by Republicans in 2015 to give the rebuttal to then-President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address. Back home in Iowa, she is a beloved champion for the middle class, known for lowering taxes for ordinary Americans, eliminating hurtful regulations and reining in runaway and wasteful government spending,
While in the Iowa Senate, she tirelessly fought to balance the state budget and helped replaced Iowa’s $900 million budget deficit with a $1 billion surplus. In 2003, Senator Ernst was deployed to Kuwait and Iraq as a commander in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
She has volunteered at a safe house for abused women and children and served as a Sunday school teacher for the church she was baptized and married in. As a college student, she participated in an agricultural exchange in Ukraine.
“Senator Ernst has been shattering glass ceilings for years,” Jim Brulte, chairman of California Republican Party, said. “Her public service in both Iowa and Washington, D.C., her exemplary military career and her service in her community makes her an excellent role model for both women and men alike. I couldn’t be more excited to have her come speak to our delegates.”
