Today, California Republicans are calling on Roger Hernandez to step down from his role as the Assemblyman from California’s 48th District and withdraw his name as a candidate for California’s 32nd Congressional District given the accusations of prolonged domestic abuse.

Said California Republican Party Vice Chair Harmeet K. Dhillon,

“Roger Hernandez should remove himself from office. Hernandez has an obligation to the people of California to represent them equally, and the repeated, serious allegations of abuse that surround him are in no way conducive to his role in representing California in the State Legislature. Domestic violence is a very serious issue in our society, not a 'private matter' to be brushed under the rug by a man holding public office.”

Said Senator Patricia Bates,

“Given the serious and growing list of accusations, Assemblyman Hernandez’s continued presence in the State Assembly brings dishonor to the entire California State Legislature.”

Said Congresswoman Mimi Walters,

“As a member of the California Congressional Delegation, I urge Assemblyman Hernandez to step down from his position and withdraw his name as a candidate for California’s 32nd Congressional District in light of the current accusations of serial abuse.”

Democrats should echo the demand that Hernandez remove himself from office. Step down Assemblyman Hernandez – California deserves an Assemblyman that they can look up to.
