Jerry McNerney and the Trillion Dollar “Mother of All Tax Hikes”

Washington- Jerry McNerney has banked $12,000 in campaign contributions from the man behind the Democrats’ new trillion dollar "Mother of All Tax Hikes."  The bill is an assault on the pocketbooks of the hard-working people of California. 

Liberal Democrat Charlie Rangel, the "father" of the "Mother of All Tax Hikes" and the powerful Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee made the investment in McNerney, storing up political capital with a down payment for McNerney's support of one of the biggest tax hikes of all time.

As Politico.com recently reported <http://list.nrcc.org/t/1745705/10092199/730/0/> , the $1 trillion price tag is not a joke:

"According to House pay-go rules, the $1 trillion price tag of his larger reform must be offset by tax hikes and the closing of so-called tax code loopholes." (Politico, 10/18/07)

"For Jerry McNerney, Rangel’s contributions will likely come with strings attached.  Twelve thousand dollars is just a small down payment for support of a trillion dollar tax increase that will severely impact the financial futures of millions of working Americans," NRCC Communications Director Jessica Boulanger said. "With his investment in McNerney, Charlie Rangel, the ‘father’ of ‘The Mother of All Tax Hikes’ will be getting quite the bang for his buck. Jerry McNerney should distance himself from Rangel’s campaign cash and his tax happy agenda."

"Call it Rangelism. His actions show that his bottom line is still increasing the government's tax take instead of making the tax system better and the government smaller." (The New York Sun, 10/24/07)

Charlie Rangel’s bill comes as no surprise. The warped rationale behind this scam plan is that in order to cut taxes, Congress should raise taxes on working Americans. This is just the latest example of the Democrats’ commitment to tax hikes and bigger government. In just 10 months of control of Congress, Democrats have passed legislation <http://list.nrcc.org/t/1745705/10092199/196/0/>  to raise taxes on the American people to the tune of over $100 billion. This equals to an average of $10 billion in new taxes on the American people per month.

Was Charlie Rangel’s $12,000 investment in Jerry McNerney a down payment for a vote on a trillion dollar tax hike? Only Jerry McNerney can answer that question. One thing is for sure, when Democrats start talking about "soaking the rich," the middle class better grab an umbrella.
