Chairman's Report

Posted: Wednesday, February 21, 2007

February 21, 2007 The 2008 campaign is under way. While Presidential candidates are hitting the field, the California Republican Party is moving rapidly to build the foundation for a strong campaign next year. Here's the latest: Capitol press. Last week I sat down with the Sacramento press corps to discuss the future of our party in California and current political issues. The Sacramento Bee ran a good story on our "pen and pad" session, noting there was a great deal of interest in the 2008 presidential primary, especially concerning timing and our new "winner take all by Congressional District" rules. "GOP Looks To New Champion" Performance Review. As we reported last week, the California Republican Party Performance Review is under way, with teams of reviewing every aspect of how our party is operating. Recognizing that your input will help make the Review a success, we've set up a special e-mail address for you to submit observations, ideas, and suggestions. Just send your input to review@cagop.org. If you have multiple ideas, please put each in a separate message. On the road. I'm working to cover as many special events in our counties as possible. On Sunday it was the Lincoln Club of the Coachella Valley for their terrific dinner remembering Presidents Lincoln, Reagan and Ford; and on Monday night it was the Republican Party of Orange County monthly meeting, which is always an event. This weekend it's the Lincoln Day dinners in Madera and Mariposa counties. If I can help you by coming to an event in your county, please send an email to Kevin Roberts at kroberts@cagop.org. Finally, next week I'll be in Washington, D.C. to teach Campaign Communications School for the Leadership Institute at the annual CPAC, followed by party events in Shasta and San Joaquin counties. Campaign training. If you're planning on running for office, or you know of a fellow Republican who is, consider attending the Leadership Institute's five day Candidate Development School at their Arlington, Virginia campus March 12 - 16. This intensive program teaches the essentials of running a competitive campaign for office, designed for candidates, campaign managers, and activists. Thank you for your leadership in putting Republican ideas into action in California. All the best, Ron Nehring CHAIRMAN California Republican Party
