California Republican Party Chairman Issues Statement Concerning Al Franken's Failure To Pay California Corporate Taxes

California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring issued the following statement today concerning Democratic Senatorial Candidate Al Franken's failure to file corporate income taxes in California from 2003 to 2007:

"Two weeks ago, OJ Simpson was listed by the California Franchise Tax Board as one of the top tax debtors - he made the 15th slot with over $1.5 million in owed back state income taxes.  Now we've learned that Democratic Senatorial candidate and former California resident Al Franken has the same dubious distinction, having failed to file corporate income taxes in California from 2003 to 2007.

"Franken's failure to file corporate income tax returns or to officially dissolve his corporation from the state of California has placed Franken's company in forfeiture.

"Al Franken should stop giving excuses and make his tax and accounting records public and explain his tax delinquency and the forfeiture status of Alan Franken, Inc.  Hard working California families have done their duty and paid their taxes, it's past time for Al Franken to do the same."

Al Franken Fails To File Corporate Income Tax Returns In California
"Democratic Senate candidate Al Franken's personal corporation didn't file corporate income tax returns in California from 2003 to 2007....  Franken's corporation is now considered forfeited by the state of California."  ("Franken's Corporation Faces Unpaid Corporate Taxes in Calif.," Associated Press, 4/16/08)

Fellow CA Tax Delinquent: OJ Simpson

"The Franchise Tax Board said Monday that the former football start owes the state $1.5 million in back state income taxes.  Simpson made the state's list of 250 top tax debtors for the second year in a row....  Simpson ranks 15th on the list this year.  He was 33rd in  2007, the first year the board posted the names."  ("Simpson Owes State $1.5 Million," The Los Angeles Times, 4/8/08)
