Statement By California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring Concerning President Bush's State of the Union Address

Posted: Monday, January 28, 2008

(Sacramento) - California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring today issued the following statement concerning President Bush's State of the Union address:

"Tonight, President Bush continued to demonstrate his leadership on the important issues facing the nation.  Reaffirming his trust in the American people to make the choices best for themselves and their families, the President called on Congress to take action on today's critical issues and produce results for the American people.  By asking Congress to put money in the hands of Americans by passing a stimulus package unencumbered with unrelated spending, to cut wasteful pork-barrel spending from federal appropriations, to keep parents empowered by reauthorizing No Child Left Behind, and to find bipartisan solutions to save Social Security and Medicare, the President is looking forward with every American in mind.

"President Bush recommitted America to a foreign policy that keeps the homeland safe from terrorists while defeating them abroad, and sustains and builds on the progress made in Iraq.  He soberly described the challenges ahead in Iraq while reaffirming America's support for our men and women in uniform and our commitment to victory.  Following President Bush's lead, the Congress should seize this moment to take action on the people's business and empower Americans now and in the future."
