Statement By California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring Concerning Governor's Action On Budget

(SACRAMENTO) - California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring today issued the following statement in response to Governor Schwarzenegger's intention to declare a state fiscal emergency in January: 

"Governor Schwarzenegger continues to use the full power of his office to bring the state's budget into balance.  By declaring a state 'fiscal emergency,' the Governor will use one of the tools voters granted him with the passage of Proposition 58 in 2004.

"We know there are plenty of people in Sacramento who see the decline in state revenues as an excuse to raise taxes at the first opportunity.  By ordering across the board spending cuts and declaring a state fiscal emergency to fast-track additional spending reductions, the Governor is demonstrating the exact kind of leadership Californians expect."
