EnCorps Teachers Program Highlights Inaction By Speaker Nunez

ENCORPS TEACHERS PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS INACTION BY SPEAKER FABIAN NÙÑEZ

The California Republican Party commends Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for his continued work and determination to help the students of California in some of our neediest communities.  At Roosevelt High School today, Governor Schwarzenegger announced the launch of EnCorps Teachers Program, an initiative that encourages business retirees to join the teaching workforce in science, math, and technical and career education.

Governor Schwarzenegger's announcement, and particularly its location, highlights the negligent, inaction, and disregard Speaker Fabian Nùñez has displayed for the district and citizens he was elected to represent.

In a district where 85.4% of the residents are Latino, 91.5% of the residents have less than a college education, and only 12% of graduates at Roosevelt High School have the necessary grades to be accepted into a CSU or UC School, one would expect that this district's representative would be at the forefront of educational accountability, promoting job creation, and advocating against the increase of taxes.  Instead, Speaker Nùñez has been spending his time devoted to the issues of gay marriage, assisted suicide, and global warming.

The majority party needs to stop turning their backs on California's neediest communities, which are often times the districts they represent.  Speaker Nùñez and the rest of the majority party should begin to show action rather than the empty rhetoric found in their speeches and political processions at the capitol steps.
