Hillary Attempts Hollywood Comeback

Posted: Saturday, March 24, 2007

"Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) will try to make her Hollywood comeback after longtime Hollywood producers and former Clinton supporters, David Geffen, Steven Spielberg, and Jeffrey Katzenberg, hosted a reception for 40 guests who raised over $46,000 apiece for their new leading star, Senator Barack Obama (D-IL).

"After Hollywood producer Geffen described Clinton as 'polarizing, overproduced and over scripted,' Billionaire Ron Burke will host a fundraising Gala for Clinton this Saturday.

"In a town that prides itself on newness, will Clinton offer her attendees the same old calculated, over scripted speech?  Or will Clinton have something new to offer to a Hollywood audience increasingly hesitant of a Clinton sequel?"

But for many, the Beverly Hilton soiree - thrown by DreamWorks studio co-founders David Geffen, Steven Spielbergand Jeffrey Katzenberg - offered their first chance to see him in person. ... From the reception, Obama headed to Geffen'sBeverly Hills estate to dine with about 40 guests - those who raised at least $46,000 apiece for the Hilton gathering." (MichaelFinnegan, "Obama Sees 2 Sides Of L.A.," Los Angeles Times, 2/21/07)

Obama is inspirational ..." (Maureen Dowd, Op-Ed, "Obama's Big Screen Test," The New York Times, 2/21/07)

Democrat Tennessee Governor Philip Bredesen: "People Love Her Or They Hate Her ... I Sure Hope There Are Other People Who Would Step Forward [To Run In 2008]." (Deborah Orin, "Dixie Diss For Hillary - Tenn. Dem Hits Prez Bid," New York Post,4/5/05)

Citing The "Mistake" Of "Hillary Run Health Care," George Stephanopoulos Noted "Compromise Didn't Come Naturally To Hillary.""[C]ompromise didn't come naturally to Hillary. She was driven by the righteous and intellectually soundconviction that only a comprehensive solution would work, but that was more than the political system could bear. It's difficult toescape the conclusion that having Hillary run health care was mistake." (George Stephanopoulos, All Too Human, 1999, p. 301)
