Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger toured the Lake Arrowhead Fire zone near Mary Putnam Henck Intermediate School and was briefed on the Lake Arrowhead Fire and other fires across southern California. The Governor held a press conference following the briefing.  Following a letter the Governor sent to President George W. Bush requesting direct federal assistance, the President declared a state of emergency for California.  The federal declaration will assist in debris removal and help with emergency protective measures including: firefighting, evacuation operations and sheltering of displaced people and animals for the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Ventura due to the wildfires.
