HOLLYWOOD'S FALLING STAR

Posted: Thursday, March 1, 2007

"A week after onetime Clinton supporter, David Geffen hosted a private dinner reception for those who raised at least $46,000 apiece for rising star Senator Barrack Obama (D-IL), Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) arrives in California to meet with top fundraisers working to raise a mere $25,000 for her March 24th Gala.

As Hollywood producer Geffen criticized Clinton by calling her polarizing and questioning her honesty, is Sen. Clinton a falling star with her onetime Hollywood supporters?"

Producer David Geffen Hosts First Big Hollywood Fundraiser For Obama, Then Attacks Clinton:

David Geffen Co-Hosted Exclusive High-Dollar Fundraiser For Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) At Glitzy Beverly Hilton Followed By Dinner At His "Beverly Hills Estate" Earlier This Week. "Obama ... has dazzled Hollywood glitterati for months. But for many, the Beverly Hilton soiree -- thrown by DreamWorks studio co-founders David Geffen, Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg -- offered their first chance to see him in person. ... From the reception, Obama headed to Geffen's Beverly Hills estate to dine with about 40 guests -- those who raised at least $46,000 apiece for the Hilton gathering." (Michael Finnegan, "Obama Sees 2 Sides Of L.A.," Los Angeles Times, 2/21/07)

Geffen Called Hillary Clinton "Polarizing." "[I] don't think that another incredibly polarizing figure, no matter how smart she is and no matter how ambitious she is - and God knows, is there anybody more ambitious than Hillary Clinton? - can bring the country together.  Obama is inspirational...." (Maureen Dowd, Op-Ed, "Obama's Big Screen Test," The New York Times, 2/21/07)

  • Geffen Attacked Clinton On Iraq. "[Hillary] is overproduced and overscripted.  "It's not a very big thing to say, 'I made a mistake' on the war, and typical of Hillary Clinton that she can't,...." (Maureen Dowd, Op-Ed, "Obama's Big Screen Test," The New York Times, 2/21/07)
  • Geffen Attacked Clinton's Honesty. "Everybody in politics lies, but they do it with such ease, it's troubling." (Maureen Dowd, Op-Ed, "Obama's Big Screen Test," The New York Times, 2/21/07)
  • Geffen Attacked Clinton Machine. "Can [Obama] stand up to Clinton Inc.? 'I hope so,' [Geffen] says, 'because that machine is going to be very unpleasant and unattractive and effective.'" (Maureen Dowd, Op-Ed, "Obama's Big Screen Test," The New York Times, 2/21/07)

Clinton Dinner With Supporters Committed To Raising $25,000 At Upcoming March 24 Fundraiser

"It will be sense of déjà vu when Hillary Clinton comes to Los Angeles on Friday, when she will meet with donors and attend a dinner hosted by Haim Saban.  The event is aimed at supporters who commit to raising $25,000 or more each at her upcoming March 24 fund-raising gala." ("Another Week, Another Clinton Visit," Wilshire & Washington Blog, Accessed: 2/28/07)

·          "Hillary Clinton and John Edwards are making California trips, as previously reported. Clinton will appear at a private dinner Saturday night at billionaire Haim Saban's LA home to meet with top fundraisers working on her big March 24th fundraiser at Ron Burkle's estate." (Bill Bradley, "Giuliani To Cali, Meet With Schwarzenegger On Gangs," New West Notes Blog, Accessed: 3/2/07)
