California Republican Party Names New Interim Chief Operating Officer

Posted: Monday, June 25, 2007

(Sacramento) - California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring today announced the appointment of veteran Republican campaigner Bill Christiansen to the position of Chief Operating Officer (Interim).

"Bill Christiansen has an extensive track record of managing large and successful Republican campaign organizations for more than a decade," said Nehring.  "He's the right person to direct our ongoing party building activities as we prepare for 2008."

Bill Christiansen served as the Executive Director of the California Republican Party's Victory '06 campaign in 2006.  He served as the Executive Director of the highly successful Republican Party of Orange County for eight years, and also served as Executive Director of the Arizona Republican Party.

"Republican volunteers throughout California are already building our campaign organization for victory in 2008, and Bill will help ensure that progress remains on track," added Nehring.

The Chief Operating Officer of the California Republican Party is named by the Board of Directors, following a referral from the Board's Operations Committee.  The Operations Committee unanimously recommended the naming of Mr. Christiansen in a teleconference this morning, which was subsequently approved by the Board of Directors this afternoon.  Mr. Christiansen will hold the position on an interim basis.

During the last four months the CRP has embarked on an aggressive party building program in preparation for the 2008 campaign:  communications operations have been expanded, while voter registration and strategic and logistical support for county committees have seen increases.

Last week the CRP named Republican campaign veteran Gerry Lynam to the position of Political Director to lead the party's campaign operations for 2008.  Lynam has served on 39 campaigns since 1972, most recently as a Bay Area Field Director for the CRP's Victory campaign in 2006.
